SSL Team Malaysia has officially secured its place in the SSL Gold Cup Final Series through the SSL ranking by sitting on 49 place and will begin its campaign in the 1/32 round this November.
As one of the most experienced sailing nations in Southeast Asia, Malaysia has a rich maritime history stretching back centuries. Long before the modern era of competitive sailing, Malay sailors were renowned for their navigation skills and their ability to travel and trade across vast distances. Today, that spirit remains very much alive
.
The Malaysian squad combines Olympic experience with young and ambitious talent. The team is led by Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy, a veteran of four Olympic Games and one of the most accomplished sailors in the country’s history. Alongside him, the team brings together athletes who have competed at the Olympic Games, Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games, World Championships and many of the most prestigious regattas in Asia.
Many of the sailors have already experienced racing on the SSL47. Several members of the squad competed during the first SSL Gold Cup Final Series in Gran Canaria in 2023, while others joined the journey later and gained valuable experience at the Southeast Asian Games.

The Southeast Asian Games also marked the first opportunity for several sailors to race together on the SSL47. Since then, the team has continued to develop, strengthen its teamwork and prepare for the next challenge.
“For sure, we want the best for the team and for Malaysia. The key is to enjoy it, and the results will follow. The monsoon season is coming, and we’ll be ready to rock,” – said SSL Team Captain Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy during the SEA GAMES in Thailand.
Malaysia has already shown that it belongs among the world’s leading sailing nations. Now the team returns to the international stage with one clear objective: to make waves once again.
